The Five Elements Crystal Guide

Welcome — this is the guide we promised when you signed up. It is a plain-language introduction to the Five Elements and how we group our crystals. No prior knowledge needed.

What the Five Elements are

Chinese philosophy describes change through five phases — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water — rather than fixed categories. Each phase carries a quality, a direction, a season and a temperament. Nothing is "good" or "bad"; the idea is balance: too little of a phase feels like something missing, too much feels like something stuck.

It is a traditional framework for talking about character and balance. It is not a diagnostic system and not a substitute for medical advice.

Wood — growth and direction 木

Quality: expansion, planning, steady growth. Wood is the sprout pushing through soil — it knows which way is up.

When Wood is low: difficulty starting, indecision, going in circles, feeling stuck in the same week.

When Wood is high: impatience, frustration when things move slowly, over-planning.

Traditional stones: green stones — green phantom quartz, green aventurine, moss agate, jade.

Fire — warmth and visibility 火

Quality: enthusiasm, expression, being seen. Fire is the spark and the spotlight.

When Fire is low: flatness, no appetite for anything, going quiet in groups, work without warmth.

When Fire is high: burnout, restlessness, talking more than listening, overcommitting.

Traditional stones: red and warm stones — red agate, garnet, carnelian, sunstone.

Earth — ground and steadiness 土

Quality: stability, support, holding things together. Earth is the ground you actually stand on.

When Earth is low: feeling ungrounded, worry, difficulty saying no, scattering your energy and your money.

When Earth is high: over-attachment to routine, resistance to change, heaviness.

Traditional stones: yellow and brown stones — citrine, yellow jasper, tiger's eye, smoky quartz.

Our bracelets: Citrine · Golden Aura Citrine

Metal — clarity and boundaries 金

Quality: refinement, discernment, letting go of what is not needed. Metal is the blade that separates the essential from the rest.

When Metal is low: unclear priorities, poor boundaries, difficulty finishing what you start.

When Metal is high: coldness, over-criticism, cutting things off too quickly.

Traditional stones: white and clear stones — clear quartz, white howlite, moonstone, pyrite.

Water — depth and restoration 水

Quality: rest, flow, reflection, feeling. Water is the well you draw from.

When Water is low: flatness, poor sleep, difficulty resting, no sense of inner life.

When Water is high: drifting, over-thinking, difficulty making decisions.

Traditional stones: blue, grey and iridescent stones — moonstone, aquamarine, labradorite, obsidian, black tourmaline.

Our bracelets: Moonstone · Aquamarine · Obsidian

Not sure which one? The two-minute quiz asks about your month rather than your birth year, and points you at a starting phase.

How to find yours

  1. Start with what you notice. Read the five sections above and see which one sounds like your current month, not your whole personality.
  2. Take the quiz. Our Energy Quiz walks through it in about a minute.
  3. Ask us. Tell us your birth month and what is going on, and we will suggest a starting point.

Many people wear one element they feel short of, and one they simply like looking at. Both are legitimate reasons.

How to wear it

There is a long tradition of wearing a stone on the left hand to draw a quality inward (rest, calm, receiving) and on the right hand to push a quality outward (action, protection, effort). Treat it as a reminder, not a rule — wear it where it is comfortable.

One honest note

Crystal bracelets are jewellery, and the meaning is the meaning you give them. We do not claim that any stone diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any illness. If something in your life needs real attention, please talk to a doctor, not a bracelet.
