Wood Element Crystals

Wood is the phase of growth and direction: the sprout that pushes through soil and knows which way is up. It is not wood the material, and it is not a soft word. In the Chinese reading Wood is expansion with a plan, the movement that keeps going after the interest has gone. Its season is spring and its colour is green. Too little Wood looks like going in circles; too much looks like impatience with anything slow.

When you might need it

  • You have been circling the same decision for weeks and both options are still open.
  • The plan exists in detail and the first hour of it has not happened.
  • You are two thirds through something long and the reason you started has gone quiet.
  • It is March and everything around you is starting while you are not.

The stones in this phase

Rose quartz is filed under Wood rather than Water, which surprises people: the heart centre's movement is growth, softness that persists rather than yields.

Green phantom quartz is the clearest green here, quartz with a ghosted inner layer recording an earlier stage of its own growth. The tradition asks it for steady accumulation rather than sudden luck.

The seven chakra bracelet touches Wood through its green heart centre.

How to choose

Pick the green your eye returns to, then check the colour sits inside the bead rather than pooled in its cracks. On size, 8 mm is light enough to stack, 10 mm is the middle path most people wear daily, and 12 mm shows the colour best; fit is decided by length rather than diameter, and our size guide measures a wrist in about a minute. Wear it on the left if you keep the rule that the left hand receives.

Wood is one movement in a larger cycle, set out on our Five Elements guide. If Wood is not your missing phase, the short quiz points at the one that is.

One honest note: the Five Elements is a traditional way of describing change, not a diagnostic system, and no stone here diagnoses, treats or cures any condition.
