Cleansing

Cleansing is the most practical idea in the tradition and the least dramatic. The claim was never that a stone scrubs anything. It was that a thing carried every day picks up the week the way a coat does, and that giving it a quiet hour to sit still is a way of doing the same for yourself. Clear quartz is the old stand-in for the practice, and obsidian is the other half of it: the boundary rather than the broom.

These are the stones people traditionally turn to:

  • After a week of rooms full of other people's moods.
  • When a piece you love has started to feel like admin.
  • At the turn of a season, or before you wear something new.

The methods are mostly about the cord rather than the stone; our guide to cleansing a bracelet runs through them properly.

How to choose

  • Clear quartz for the shelf, obsidian for the wrist. One settles the set, the other is worn on days when too much is coming in.
  • Bead size. 10 mm is the workhorse, and 12 mm suits obsidian, where a larger surface reads black. See the size guide.
  • Skip anything vivid. Even colour pooled in the cracks usually means glass or dye.

In the Five Elements, clear quartz is Metal and obsidian is Water, which the guide explains.

To be clear: no stone here diagnoses, treats or cures anything. We write about tradition, and we sell stones.
