The most common mistake about this shelf is the direction of travel. In the older tradition these stones do not draw a person toward you; they work on the one wearing them first, keeping you open instead of defended and level instead of swinging. Rose quartz is the heart stone in that older sense. Moonstone, which the internet files under romance, is asked for something else: rhythm, and the tide going out and coming back.

- After an ending, when staying soft is the harder option.
- Before a conversation you have been avoiding, rather than before a date.
- In a long relationship, on the days it is maintenance rather than fireworks.

How to choose
- Soften or steady. Rose quartz for the first, moonstone for the second. Both is a fine answer.
- Colour. Pale rose reads quiet and everyday, a deeper rose reads deliberate, and natural pink is never vivid.
